Boston/Cambridge!

This update is long past due, but I thought I would add my last summer travel destination so this blog is complete.

Highlights

Nobel Laureates: I attended a discussion panel of four Nobel laureates: Dr. Dudley Herschbach (Chemistry, 1986), Dr. John Mather (Physics, 2006), Dr. Wolfgang Ketterle (Physics, 2001), Dr. Craig Mello (Physiology or Medicine, 2006). They had some great things to say about science, education, their own life experiences, and how they made their discoveries.

Harvard: I was able to visit old friends when I visited this campus. Unfortunately, the Boston weather did not make the visit as picturesque as it could be, but I enjoyed the company rather than the campus.

MIT: Before arriving at MIT, I thought about how long it had been since I had been there, but once I stepped onto campus, I felt comfortable again. I definitely do not know the campus as well as I do Stanford, but I know it well enough to get around still. Since it was raining, I got to use the underground tunnels to stay dry, which always brings back great memories of “chairing.” I enjoyed being back at MIT and seeing my friends happy in their college home.

Chinatown: On my last day in Boston, my friends and I went to eat dim sum and boba in Chinatown. It was the first time I had ever been to the Boston Chinatown. Having almost grown up in the San Francisco Chinaton, I think many of the other city’s Chinatowns pale in comparison, but it was still nice to get some Chinese food after having returned shortly from Germany. I realized how much I missed the small things like tea, eating with chopsticks, and boba. Visiting Chinatown was a great way to ease back into the habit of eating Asian food. After the yummy lunch closed my weekend on the East Coast, I returned home to California.
